The issue When a couple moved into a shared ownership apartment in Battersea, difficulties arose when their neighbours dog barked incessantly. The problems continued over a period of 17 months. Mediation took place over one day with separate meetings taking place in the parties’ homes.
Mediation outcome It was established that the neighbour was keeping a rescue dog that was suffering from a type of trauma. Eventually it was agreed that the dog required treatment therapy. The couple also received an apology. It was also agreed that any future problems should be addressed immediately between the parties.
After 12 weeks, a follow up mediation session took place and the dog’s barking had ceased. Court proceedings and costs were avoided and a fragile neighbourly relationship restored.
